Compresser PDF

Need to shrink a PDF down to exactly 200 KB to pass a strict web portal upload cap (most government forms, bank uploads, and visa applications cap at 200 KB / 500 KB / 1 MB) or an email size threshold? This free in-browser compressor hits your exact target size without sending the file to a server.

Comment Utiliser

  1. Upload PDF: Drop the PDF you need to shrink. Most files from 1 MB up to 50 MB are supported — the browser handles compression locally
  2. Set 200 KB Target: Choose 200 KB (or 100 KB / 500 KB if your portal allows a slightly higher cap). The compressor will hit the target on the first pass
  3. Auto-Compress: The tool re-encodes embedded images at the right quality, removes redundant font subsets, and downsamples non-essential graphics — everything happens in your browser
  4. Download 200 KB PDF: Save the compressed file and attach it to your email or upload it to the portal. The output is selectable and searchable, not an image scan

Questions Fréquentes

Why do many portals cap at 200 KB?

Older web forms, government portals (USPS, DMV, IRS), and banking upload fields often use a 200 KB hardcoded limit to reduce server load. Many do not advertise the limit — uploads just silently fail. 200 KB is a safe default.

Will text remain readable after compression to 200 KB?

Yes. Vector text in PDFs is not affected by image compression. Only embedded photos and graphics are downsampled. A typical contract or invoice PDF (text + signature + logo) comfortably fits at 200 KB.

What if my PDF is mostly images?

A pure-image scanned PDF (e.g., a scanned book chapter) cannot always hit 200 KB without visible quality loss. For these, use the Image to PDF converter first to reduce DPI before compressing.

Can I compress a 10 MB PDF to 200 KB?

Yes, but expect significant image re-encoding. Photographs and high-DPI scans will downsample to a readable but lower-resolution version. Text-heavy PDFs (contracts, invoices, applications) compress with no visible loss.

Is there a quality difference vs. paid compressors?

For target-size compression, no. The PDF spec gives any compressor the same set of tradeoffs (DPI, JPEG quality, font subsetting). Paid tools just add server-side processing for batch uploads — which is also a privacy risk.

How is this different from the regular compress tool?

The regular compress tool optimizes for visual quality at a chosen level. The 200 KB scenario is a preset tuned to hit exactly 200 KB on a first pass — useful when the size is more important than maximum quality.
