  1. Drop Your PDF: Drag any PDF in. Multi-page documents supported. The tool shows page thumbnails.
  2. Place White Block: Click 'Whiteout' mode, then drag a rectangle over the text you want to cover. The tool fills it with a white rectangle at the same z-level as the original text. Adjust size with corner handles.
  3. Add Replacement Text: Switch to 'Text' mode (or do both in one go). Click in the whiteout area, type your replacement text. Customize font/size/color — match the original or change as needed.
  4. Save: Click 'Save'. The output PDF has the original text covered and your new text in its place. Looks like a clean edit, just like you'd do with paper and white-out pen, but on a PDF.

Can I white out text in a PDF and type new text?

Yes — our PDF Editor includes a 'Whiteout' mode for covering original text with a white rectangle, plus a 'Text' mode for adding new content. Use them together to fix typos, update form answers, or revise any PDF content. Browser-side, no upload.

Does the whiteout remove the original text permanently?

Yes. The white rectangle is drawn at the same z-level as the original content, fully covering it. Saving the PDF embeds the whiteout layer permanently — the original text is no longer visible or extractable. This is different from annotation tools that let you toggle layers.

Is this different from redaction?

Yes — our tool is for 'fix typos / update answers' use cases. For real redaction (legal compliance, removing sensitive info), we use a different mechanism that ensures the underlying text is truly irretrievable. Whiteout + rewrite is for when you want a clean edit visible result; redaction is for hidden removal.

Will my PDF be uploaded?

No. pdf-lib runs entirely in your browser. Whether you're fixing a typo in a confidential contract or updating an HR form, the file stays on your device.
