Set Crop Box: Choose crop mode: 'Auto-detect margins' (intelligently removes whitespace), 'Set uniform margins' (e.g. all sides 10mm), or 'Custom rectangle' (precise x/y/width/height in mm). Per-page overrides available.
Apply Crop: Click 'Crop'. pdf-lib processes the crop box in your browser. Page sizes update, content stays exactly where it was — just with reduced surrounding whitespace. A 100-page PDF crops in under 10 seconds.

How do I crop margins from a PDF?

Drop your PDF into our PDF Crop tool, set the crop amount (auto-detect, uniform margin, or custom rectangle), click 'Crop', and download. The PDF keeps all its content but the surrounding whitespace is trimmed. Processed in your browser, no upload needed.

Will crop remove content?

Only the content outside your crop rectangle is removed from view. Auto-detect and standard margin crops typically don't remove content. With custom rectangle crop, anything outside the box is excluded — useful for selective content trimming. For safer crops, use auto-detect or generous margins.

Can I crop different pages differently?

Yes — set per-page crops. Use the page selector to apply different crops to cover page, body pages, and appendix. Or apply a uniform crop to all pages in one click. Useful for documents with mixed layouts (e.g., portrait body + landscape figures).

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Yes — auto-detect works especially well on scans with clean borders. The tool identifies the page edge (where ink starts), crops tight to that edge, and removes scan artifacts. For pages with content bleeding to the edge, use 'uniform margins' or 'custom rectangle' to preserve the bleed.

Will my PDF be uploaded?

No. pdf-lib handles all cropping locally. For academic papers, exam materials, and confidential reports, the file stays on your device the entire time.

What happens to form fields?

Form fields respect the new page bounds. If a field extends outside the crop rectangle, it remains in the form field dictionary but is not visible (it would be rendered off-page). For PDF forms with fields near edges, preview the crop before applying to catch this edge case.
