About PDF Tools — Built by Privacy-First Publishers
Privacy-first PDF tools, built by people who care.
We're a small team making 30+ browser-based PDF utilities. No accounts, no uploads, no tracking. Used by 30,000-60,000 people every month.
Why we built this
We started PDF Tools in 2024 after watching too many colleagues upload confidential contracts to free PDF websites — and getting their files scraped for AI training or sold to data brokers.
Every tool on this site runs entirely in your browser using open-source JavaScript libraries. Your files never touch our servers. We can't see them, we don't log them, and we don't have a database to leak.
This privacy guarantee isn't a marketing claim — it's a technical constraint of how the site is built. There is no upload server to compromise, because there is no upload at all.

What we aren't
- ✕ Not an Adobe Acrobat replacement — for complex desktop publishing, use Adobe
- ✕ Not an enterprise document management system — no SSO, no audit logs, no admin controls
- ✕ Not a file storage service — we have no servers, so we have nothing to store
- ✕ Not affiliated with Adobe, Microsoft, Google, or any vendor we link to
How it works (the short version)
Each PDF tool is a single-page JavaScript app that runs in your browser. When you click Merge or Compress, your file is processed locally using libraries like pdf-lib, PDF.js, or Tesseract.js — never uploaded anywhere.
The site itself is statically generated and served from a CDN. We use Plausible Analytics (cookieless, GDPR-compliant) to count visitors. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any cross-site tracking.
The code is open source under the MIT license. You can audit it, run it yourself, or fork it.
