How to Use

  1. Drop Fillable PDF: Drag your form PDF in. We detect AcroForm fields (text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns) automatically. For non-fillable PDFs, our overlay mode lets you place text/signatures anywhere on the page.
  2. Fill Form Fields: Click each field and type your values. Tab navigates between fields. Checkboxes and radio buttons respond to clicks. For PDFs without built-in fields, switch to 'Overlay Mode' and place text/signatures wherever needed.
  3. Add Signature: Place a signature box wherever the form requires it. Type, draw, or upload your signature. Optional: add date, initials, printed name alongside. Signatures are flattened into the PDF on save.
  4. Save Filled PDF: Click 'Save'. The PDF is downloaded with field values intact (editable in compatible readers) plus a flattened signature layer. Email it back to the requester, upload to your HR portal, or print.

Common Questions

Can I fill out a PDF form without uploading it?

Yes. Our PDF Sign tool also fills form fields. Drop your PDF, click each field to type your answers, add your signature, and save. Everything happens locally in your browser via pdf-lib — your form and the result never touch any server.

Does it work with all PDF forms?

Yes for AcroForm-style fillable PDFs (most government, tax, and HR forms). For non-fillable PDFs (flat scans of forms), we offer 'Overlay Mode' that lets you place text and signatures anywhere on the page — like a typewriter. Both produce completed PDFs that recipients can read and print.

How do I sign a PDF form?

Once you've filled in the form fields (or in overlay mode), click on the signature line area and choose 'Add Signature'. Three options: type (rendered in cursive font), draw (mouse/touch), upload (scan/photo of your handwritten signature). The signature embeds into the PDF and can be flattened if needed for permanence.

Will the field values be visible in any PDF reader?

Yes — AcroForm fields stay editable in any standards-compliant reader (Adobe Reader, Preview, Chrome PDF viewer). For forms where the recipient shouldn't edit the values (signed contracts), click 'Flatten' before saving to burn the values into the page content. Either way, the printed form looks identical.

Can I save my form data for reuse?

Our browser-side tool doesn't store form data on a server. For privacy, completed forms save only to your downloads folder. For repeated submissions (e.g. same info across multiple W-9s), keep a separate text file with your details and paste them in.

Will my form values be uploaded?

No. pdf-lib processes form fills entirely in your browser. Whether the form contains Social Security numbers, medical information, financial data, or HR records — none of it leaves your device.
