UPDF
UPDF is an AI-assisted PDF editor with built-in OCR and chat-with-PDF, useful for edits our free tool can't handle.
We focus on common cases; UPDF adds an AI layer for asking questions about the document content.
Convert a PDF into an editable .docx Word document — paragraphs, headings, bold runs, page breaks, and embedded images are preserved. Runs entirely in your browser.
Best for PDFs with selectable text (not scanned images). For scanned PDFs, use our OCR PDF tool first. Complex layouts (multi-column, text boxes) may shift slightly — manual cleanup in Word may be needed.

Need the Word output to look like the original PDF? Our 'Visual Fidelity' mode renders each PDF page as a high-DPI image embedded in .docx — fonts, colors, images, and layout all stay exactly as designed. No upload, no watermarks, perfect for contracts, branded reports, and designed documents.

Use our Visual Fidelity mode. Each PDF page is rendered as a high-DPI image and embedded in the .docx file, so the original layout — fonts, colors, images, tables, columns — stays intact. You still get selectable text on top for search/edit. No upload, fully local.
Editable Text mode extracts text + structure and rebuilds a native Word document. Fonts and layout match best-effort, but complex designs may shift. Visual Fidelity mode embeds each page as a high-DPI image, preserving exact layout but making text changes require re-typing. Pick based on whether you'll edit the content (Editable Text) or just need the design preserved (Visual Fidelity).
For screen review and most document workflows, 200 DPI offers a good balance. Use 300 DPI for printed output or when text is very small (e.g. legal footnotes). 150 DPI keeps file size smallest — fine for draft review or email attachments.
You can copy text out of the embedded page images via OCR-click selection, but you can't directly edit text in place. For mixed use, convert with Visual Fidelity to lock the layout, then use our PDF Editor or PDF to Word Editable Text mode for the content you need to change — keep both versions.
At 200 DPI, a 10-page PDF produces a .docx around 5-15 MB (mostly embedded page images). 300 DPI roughly doubles that. 150 DPI halves it. Compress with our PDF Compress tool if needed after conversion to email-share.
No. The conversion runs in your browser. Whether your PDF is a confidential merger document, a private medical record, or a proprietary design proof, the file and result stay on your device the entire time.
