Common Questions

What's the best file size for a resume PDF?

Most recruiters and ATS systems expect resumes under 1 MB. Some portals cap at 500 KB (Workday) or 2 MB (design roles). Compressing to 500 KB is the safest default for tech and corporate roles.

Will compressing my resume hurt print quality?

No. Text-heavy resumes use vector fonts which are not affected by compression. Only embedded photos and graphics are re-encoded. Print resolution stays at 300 DPI minimum.

Will ATS systems still be able to read my resume?

Yes. The compressor preserves text as a selectable, searchable layer. ATS bots that parse text (Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS) read the text layer directly, not the image — so compression does not affect parsing accuracy.

Should I compress a two-column resume?

Yes, but columns increase parsing risk for some legacy ATS. If a column breaks the parse, switch to a single-column layout before compressing. The compress tool does not change your layout.

Does the compressor add a watermark?
