Common Questions

How does the splitter detect invoice boundaries?

If your PDF has bookmarks (QuickBooks and most bank exports do), the splitter uses each bookmark as a boundary. Otherwise, choose 'one page per invoice' for typical batch invoices, or 'every N pages' for fixed-format invoices.

Will multi-page invoices be split correctly?

Yes. Bookmark-based splitting keeps all pages of a single invoice together. For 'one page per invoice' mode, multi-page invoices need to use 'every N pages' with the correct count.

Can I rename the output files?

Yes. The output naming pattern is configurable: 'invoice_NNN.pdf', 'YYYY-MM-DD_invoice.pdf' (if date is detected), or keep the original page title where present.

How does this compare to OCR-based invoice splitting?

OCR-based splitting reads invoice numbers from each page to detect boundaries — slower and prone to OCR errors on faded scans. Bookmark-based splitting is faster and 100% accurate when bookmarks exist.

Is my invoice data uploaded?

No. The split runs in your browser. Vendor names, amounts, and bank details never leave your computer — important for invoices containing customer PII or bank account numbers.

What about scanned paper invoices?

Scanned PDFs split by page count or bookmark just like native PDFs. The output is a scannable image PDF — to make it searchable, run it through the PDF OCR tool after splitting.

Can I split a 500-page PDF at once?

Yes. The browser handles large PDFs but device memory matters — most laptops easily split 1000-page PDFs. The splitter processes in streaming mode to keep memory low.
