Common Questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Cropping runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib — your file never leaves your device. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool will still work fully offline.

Does cropping permanently remove content?

No. Cropping only changes the visible page area (the MediaBox and CropBox). Text and images outside the new box remain in the file and can be revealed by re-saving with a PDF editor. For permanent removal of sensitive text, use PDF Redact.

What's the difference between crop and resize?

Resize changes the page to a new size (e.g. Letter to A4) starting at the origin (0, 0). Crop keeps the original page coordinates and trims margins inward. Use crop to remove whitespace; use resize to standardize the page size across a document.

Can I crop only specific pages?

Yes. Switch from 'All pages' to 'Page range' and enter pages like 1-3, 5, 8-10. Only the selected pages are cropped; others keep their original dimensions. This is useful when a document has different margin needs on different sections.

What units can I use for margins?

Millimeters (mm), centimeters (cm), inches (in), and PostScript points (pt) are supported. 1 inch = 72 pt = 25.4 mm. The values are converted precisely, with no rounding loss in the conversion step.

Can I crop a password-protected PDF?

Yes. If the PDF is encrypted, you'll be prompted for the password. The decryption happens locally in your browser and the password is never sent to a server. After unlocking, cropping proceeds normally.

Will cropping reduce the file size?

Sometimes. The visible page becomes smaller, so some PDF readers will scale content. The underlying file size rarely changes significantly because the content is still in the file. To actually reduce file size, use PDF Compress after cropping.

Is the cropped PDF identical to the original content?

Yes. We modify only the page MediaBox and CropBox. Text, images, fonts, annotations, form fields, and metadata are preserved exactly. The file structure is rewritten, but the underlying content is unchanged.
